This is where we started. Comfort Solutions opened its West Haven showroom on July 1, 2000 and has been serving Ogden homeowners ever since. How Valley Inversions and Hard Water Compound the Problem

Winter inversions are Ogden’s signature climate event. Cold air settles into the valley and stays, keeping temperatures at or below freezing for days. Furnaces run nearly nonstop during these stretches. That sustained load exposes every weak point: dirty filters, failing flame sensors, worn ignition components.

Water from the Ogden River and Pineview Reservoir ranges from 170 to 410 PPM depending on the season. That mineral content scales water heater tanks, reduces pipe flow, and wears out fixtures. Homes near the University District and Southeast Ogden tend to see the hardest water in the area.

At 4,300-5,000 feet elevation, furnaces also burn fuel less efficiently. The same unit that runs fine at sea level works 10-15% harder here.

Why does my furnace never shut off during inversions?

Ogden’s valley inversions hold temperatures below freezing for days. At 4,300+ feet, your furnace burns fuel less efficiently on top of that. If the system runs continuously and can’t reach set temperature, it may be undersized, have restricted airflow, or need a tune-up.

How often should I flush my water heater in Ogden?

At least annually. Pineview Reservoir water peaks at 410 PPM during certain months. That mineral load settles as sediment in your tank and coats heating elements. Flushing clears it. A water softener prevents it from accumulating in the first place.
