Winter inversions are Ogden’s signature climate event. Cold air settles into the valley and stays, keeping temperatures at or below freezing for days. Water from the Ogden River and Pineview Reservoir ranges from 170 to 410 PPM depending on the season. That mineral content scales water heater tanks, reduces pipe flow, and wears out fixtures. Homes near the University District and Southeast Ogden tend to see the hardest water in the area.

Why does my furnace never shut off during inversions?

Ogden’s valley inversions hold temperatures below freezing for days. At 4,300+ feet, your furnace burns fuel less efficiently on top of that. If the system runs continuously and can’t reach set temperature, it may be undersized, have restricted airflow, or need a tune-up.

How often should I flush my water heater in Ogden?
